What Is the Family Office Club?
Short answer. The Family Office Club is an association I founded to help family offices and ultra-wealthy families learn, connect, and share practices for running and improving family offices. It brings members together through events and educational resources focused on the needs of this community, including office formation, investing, governance, and common operating challenges.
The Family Office Club is an association I founded to help family offices learn from each other and make the family office marketplace work better. We connect families and family office professionals with peers, educational material, and discussions about the practical work of forming and running an office.
A Place to Learn the Fundamentals
Family offices have distinct responsibilities and operating needs. A family may be deciding whether to form an office, how to oversee investments, or how to organize governance and service providers. The Club provides education around these topics so families can start with a clearer understanding of common models and pitfalls.
Our resources address questions that range from defining the purpose of an office to building processes and evaluating investment opportunities. If you are at the beginning, the how to start a family office guide lays out a sequence of topics to work through. The goal is to give families a useful foundation for conversations with their own legal, tax, and investment professionals.
Connecting Family Offices
Peer conversations can help families compare approaches and learn from experience. The Club hosts events and creates opportunities for family offices to meet one another, exchange perspectives, and discuss shared challenges. The Family Office Club has hosted 340 events since 2007. Each family remains distinct, but repeated discussions can surface practices worth considering and questions a family may not have thought to ask.
Learning from peers works best when you keep context in view. A structure or process that fits one family may not fit yours. Use conversations to sharpen your questions and understand the tradeoffs, then make decisions based on your family's own goals, governance, and risk tolerance. Our guide to learning from other family offices explains how to make peer exchange useful.
Practical Education and Community
The Club's focus is on family office practice, including investments, operations, talent, and governance. Events and educational content help members build familiarity with these areas and connect with people who work through them. A family can use those conversations to identify gaps in its own knowledge, prepare for a project, or hear how others have approached a decision.
Families can also explore the meaning of a single family office and how it differs from other arrangements. The format of an office should follow the family's needs. The Club is a learning and connection resource, while each family's advisers and internal leadership remain responsible for decisions specific to that family.
Our mission at the Family Office Club is to make the family office industry more efficient as a marketplace, to help ultra-wealthy families learn the fundamentals of family offices, and to grow the industry on a global basis.
