Succession and Estate Transfer Calculator
Estimate how much of your estate reaches the next generation with and without a yearly gifting plan, using your own exemption and estate tax rate. Free, no login, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

How the Calculator Works
Without a plan, the estate grows at your rate until the transfer and is taxed above the exemption. With the plan, the yearly gift leaves the estate and grows outside it, so it is not taxed at transfer, and a smaller estate remains. The calculator compares the two.
It assumes the gifts themselves are not taxed. In practice, gifts above the annual exclusion use up part of your lifetime exemption, and trusts change the math, so treat the result as a starting point for a conversation with your attorney and CPA. Governance matters as much as tax; see how a family office should handle succession.
Assumptions and Sources
- Top US federal estate tax rate of 40%. State estate and inheritance taxes are not included.. Source: Internal Revenue Code section 2001
- Exemption is a user input; the default is a starting figure only. Gifts are treated as leaving the estate tax-free, which is a simplification.. Source: Family Office Club calculation method
Questions About This Calculator
Does this replace estate planning advice?
No. It shows the size of the issue so you can have a better conversation with your attorney and CPA.
Why does growth matter so much?
Assets that grow inside your estate are taxed on their future value. Moving them out early moves the growth out too.
