Introduction to Ireland

Ireland is an island nation in Europe with a politically stable, although currently financially unstable, democratic government with a free market-based economy.  The country was hit particularly hard by the global financial crisis and is still reeling from a burst housing bubble and a sovereign debt crisis that required the country to seek a multi-billion dollar bailout by the European Union in 2010.

Why Ireland?

Although Ireland is currently in a tough spot, it is still a popular destination for the European elite and wealthy families.  There are a number of Irish family offices operating in the country and there are European banks providing private banking solutions to local Irish families.  The fact that there are already family offices working in Ireland suggests that the industry will continue growth as families become even more familiar and reliant on the family office model for their wealth management, tax and other needs.

Family Offices in Ireland

There are certainly less family offices in Ireland than in the nearby UK or many other large family office hubs, however, the family office model has become more familiar to wealthy Irish families and ultra-high net worth individuals.  In the future, we expect the family office industry to grow although the current financial and economic uncertainty in the country makes it difficult to ascertain the full accuracy of this prediction, suffice it to say that there are already a number of single and multi-family offices operating in the country and it is reasonable to assume that this trend will continue in the future.
