- Jeff Pickard, Co-Founder of V.A.M.A. (Veterans Aviation & Maintenance Academy). Along with his partners, Carlos Nelson and Lamar Haynes are three veterans that are highly experienced in the aviation and post-secondary education space; working to acquire an Aviation Flight School. The partners have identified a flight school and a way to grow the profitable school during the COVID-19 pandemic; while preparing for the eventual massive pilot and mechanic shortage that will overtake the aviation industry within the next 12-18 months. Jeff is a 39½ year Air Force veteran, who enlisted in the Air Force in 1980, earned his Bachelors (and Masters) Degree and subsequently retired at the rank of Colonel in 2019. Jeff spent nearly his entire time in the service in the aircraft maintenance field; having worked on the F-15, F-111, F-16, F-4, F-117, KC-135, C-141, C-5, C-17 and KC-10 aircraft over his career. Jeff left active duty in 1992 and joined the Air Force Reserve as a full time civil service supervisor and reserve officer. Jeff retired from civil service in 2019 as a GS-14 Aircraft Maintenance Manager and concurrently as the 349th Maintenance Group Commander at Travis Air Force Base, where he managed the largest associate maintenance group in the Air Force Reserve; responsible for over 800 employees and managing an annual budget in excess of 21 million dollars; to train and equip the forces under his command.
