Graphene – miracle material or hype?
It is a miracle material that conducts heat and electricity better than copper, that is 200 times stronger than steel, and has many applications ranging from fuel cells to medical devices to industrial products in almost every market vertical. BUT it is expensive: at $100+/gram, it is twice today’s gold price! Some new manufacturing technologies might cut this by 10X or more, but they do not address affordable surface coating – a key process needed to realize graphene’s full potential. 705 Cambridge has a graphene production and coating technology that could cut the cost by up to 1,000X thereby enabling truly scalable applications.

Our process uses electrochemistry: a 150+ year old process proven at scale. The starting material is graphite rod, costing as little as $0.01 / gram. We have a patented process which could cut the cost of graphene production by up to 1,000X.

Business Model: We Sell Concentrated Graphene Solutions
We will make and sell a concentrated proprietary graphene solution that is 100% pure graphene with some graphene oxide (10%-15%) and no graphite. We will tightly control the manufacturing and distribution of this proprietary concentrate – i.e., the “Coca-Cola” model. We will also license companies to use our consumables and specific processes for coatings. Our cost is under $1/g, which makes us immensely affordable and profitable at the same time with tremendous competitive pricing flexibility.

The initial target raise is $1.0 million for 15% equity in the company. This will enable us to build a pilot plant and move from technology maturation to early monetization in 1-2 years after which additional financing would enable scaling. Uses of proceeds include the pilot plant, working capital, key personnel, capturing early adopter customers, and establishing technology and scale-up partnerships with Rochester Institute of Technology - RIT and SUNY Albany Nanotechnology Center.
